Atelier de Vallauris

Courses & Workshops

I opened my atelier in Vallauris out of a desire to share my passion — to introduce clay modelling in a calm, generous setting, and to show those who have never dared to work this material the pleasure of creation and the deep satisfaction of seeing a piece come into being.

If you feel the desire, come and try — I hope my passion will become yours.

Workshops

My intention is to accompany each student through the act of creation — teaching the craft of building in three dimensions, the reading of plans, the appreciation of proportion, and the unavoidable steps that bring a sculpture to life.

How a workshop unfolds

Small groups of four to six are welcomed at the Vallauris atelier (parking on site). Clay and tools are included; firing is available as a supplement. Lunch is usually taken on the premises — bring a picnic, or visit one of the nearby restaurants.

Pieces are either taken home unfired at the end of the workshop or left at the atelier to dry before firing (three to six weeks, depending on the volume). Once out of the kiln, you will be contacted to collect your sculpture.

For whom

Workshops are open to everyone — beginners and experienced alike. No prior practice is required; for beginners, the choice of model can be guided according to its difficulty.

The essential thing is to learn and progress in a relaxed atmosphere.

Format & fees

One-day pottery workshops or two-day themed workshops, from 10:00 to 17:00 (arrival fifteen minutes before). €120 for the pottery day, €240 for a two-day workshop (face, animal, or another model after agreement on feasibility) — clay and tools included, firing €25 in supplement.

Registration is required by email or telephone. A €80 deposit secures your place; it is only charged in the event of cancellation within two weeks of the start date. A minimum of four participants is required to confirm the workshop.

Birthdays, corporate events and "awakening to clay" workshops for children from the age of six can be organised on request.

Themed workshops

Free Choice

2 days

Sculpt the piece of your choice, from a photograph or an object to reproduce. Step by step, I guide you through the techniques needed to bring it to life. Beginners are invited to share their reference in advance so we can confirm it can be completed in two days.

The Face

2 days

Learn to model a realistic face using a method you can reproduce at home. A male or female model is proposed — an exercise in observation and proportion.

  • Day 1 — morning: study of the skull and bone structure, placement of volumes.
  • Day 1 — afternoon: nose, mouth, eye and ear; volume of the hair.
  • Day 2 — morning: bust assembly, hair, headwrap or coiffure.
  • Day 2 — afternoon: facial details, refinement of the bust, hollowing and finishes.

Pottery

1 day

A day to create useful objects — cup, pot, mug, dish, plate — and discover several foundational techniques:

  • Coiling — stack ropes of clay to build walls of any shape or volume; ideal for vases and pots.
  • Slab building — assemble flat plates to compose geometric forms and boxes.
  • Pinching — shape a single ball of clay into bowls or mugs.
  • Decoration with the atelier's engobes, then drying before firing.

Places are limited — pre-registration required.
